Publishing with Postwave in 2027

I was incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to design this beautiful book, illustrated by the incredibly talented Kalina Muhova and authored by the brilliant Stephen Davies, who I also worked with on Young Discovers.

Footprints looks at the imagined life of Lucy, an early hominid, after the discovery of her footprints on the Laetoli Plains, Tanzania, in 1978.

We wanted to do something a bit different with this book, so approached the illustration from a slight graphic-novel style angle. To make sure the flow of the story worked well, I designed thumbnails for the entire book - most of the layouts remained very similar in their final iterations.

We really wanted to stay true to Kali’s beautiful illustrations, so I also ended up creating a typeface from Kali’s handwriting that we could use alongside the artwork.
